The exact location of the Astraturm was once home to its prominent predecessor: the high-rise headquarters of the Bavaria St. Pauli Brewery, affectionately also known as the „Pilstulpe“ (Pilsner glass). For structural reasons it was not possible to revitalise the 1970 building as originally planned, but today‘s Astraturm evokes the brewery headquarters in both name and architecture. Just as the Astra beer that used to be brewed at the site evolved from a blue-collar beverage into a popular cult brand, today‘s Astraturm is becoming a highly sought-after office address.
